Tower of Babel

there are many stories in the bible. And there is one story worth thinking about...

its the tower of babel...

some time after the noah's flood, everyone was speaking one language. when they stumbled upon the land of Shinar, they decided to build a landmark so great that everyone on earth can see it.

the top of the tower of babel 'reached the skies'...

how high must it be to reach the skies?

tallest existing building in the world is Burj Khalifa, also known as Burj Dubai, which boasts 810 meters in height.

so... how tall is tower of babel in the bible?

many historians connect the tower with ziggurats popular at the time. Etemenanki (foundation of heaven and earth) ziggurat in particular. But this particular ziggurat is rectangular and only 91 meters high.

how about other documents? shouldn't such tall building have more records?

one of the older documents, Booko of Jubilees (160-150 BC), notes the height of the tower as 5,433 cubits and 2 palms, or 2,484 meters. and other documents (source: wikipedia) put the height of the tower at least 2 kilometers high.

we were only able to build 810 meter Burj Dubai recently... was tower of babel possible thousands of years ago?

as we can see from pyramids, why did human technology declined?

can we find the answer to these questions from the bible verse after the building tower of babel?

God confounded their language and dispersed them. since they couldn't talk to one another, did our technology decline because we couldn't teach?

or is there 'x' factor somewhere?

1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. (Book of Genesis 11:1-9)
