The Return of the Prodigal Son

the story of the return of the prodigal son is popular and is subject of art for many artists like Rambrant.

(The Return of the Prodigal Son), 1669, Oil on canvas, 262 x 206 cm,  The Hermitage, St. Petersbur, Russia

the story of the return of the prodigal son is as follows...

once upon a time, there was a family in a village... we don't know the exact composition of the family members but we know this much; a father and two sons... and considering that they had many servants, their family was well off...

One day, small son took his share of the father's fortune and went to play on far away land... and he spent all on prostitution and entertainment... he lost everything. on top of that, there was a famine; he was worse off than a beggar... eventually, he had to share food with the pigs he was looking after...

than he realizes... even his father's servants don't starve as much as him... let me become my father's servant...

so he returns to his father...

on the other hand, after sending his small child away, the father is waiting for his return... and one day, when he saw glimpse of his son, whom no one else recognized, he went to greet him on his barefoot...

and he clothe him and gave him a ring and had a great celebration for him...

his older brother, who was working on the fields, heard that his younger brother is back and there's a big celebration... he was angry with his father.

Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. But when this, your son, came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.- Luke 15:29-30

on which the father responds...

But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this, your brother, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found. - Luke 15:32

i just feel sorry for the older brother... i understand his scars...
